TEF Canada Exam Modules (New Format)

The TEF Canada exam consists of the following 4 sub-tests:

  • Reading Comprehension (Reading) (CE): 60 minutes: 40 questions- Computer-based- No negative marking
  • Oral comprehension (Listening) (CO): 40 minutes: 40 questions- Computer-based- No negative marking
  • Written Expression (Writing) (EE): 60 minutes: 2 tasks- Computer-based
  • Oral expression (Speaking) (EO): 15 minutes: 3 tasks- Face-to-face with examiner

The TEF Canada is a computer-based exam only. Very few centres offer a pen-paper based version for the same.

TCF Canada Exam Modules

The TCF Canada exam consists of the following 4 sub-tests:

  • Reading comprehension: computer-based collective test – 39 multiple-choice questions (4 options, one correct answer) – 60 minutes- No negative marking
  • Listening comprehension: computer-based collective test – 39 multiple-choice questions (4 options, one correct answer) – 35 minutes- No negative marking
  • Written expression: computer-based collective test – 3 tasks– 60 minutes
  • Oral expression: individual face-to-face test with an examiner – 3 tasks– 12 minutes

The TCF exam has a pen-paper version also available in some centres. You may check with your centre at the time of registration for the exam.

IMPORTANT:

  1. Please be aware that if you are a beginner aiming to study for the TEF/TCF Canada exam, the learning journey and curriculum remain the same for all learners up until the B2 level. After covering all aspects of French grammar, the final phase of preparation is tailored to the specific format of the TEF or TCF Canada exam for each module.
