The FRENCH verb ‘avoir’ has several uses. In French, there are some expressions which according to English may seem to use the conjugation of the verb ‘Être’ but actually use the conjugation of ‘avoir’.
The verb ‘avoir’ is also used to express the state of one’s body. Par exemple:
avoir mal à la tête | to have a headache | J’ai mal à la tête. |
avoir mal au bras | to have pain in the arm | Tu as mal au bras. |
avoir mal à la gorge | to have pain in the throat | Il a mal à la gorge. |
avoir mal au ventre | to have pain in the stomach | Elle a mal au ventre. |
avoir mal à la jambe. | to have pain in the leg | Il a mal à la jambe. |

The verb ‘faire’ is also used in French to describe the weather. This has been demonstrated below:
