Let’s be honest, most people think Task 1 of TCF Canada is easy because it’s just “introduce yourself”.
But if you don’t know how they might ask it, or what exactly to say, you’ll end up either blanking out or rambling without structure.
So here’s what you actually need to know:
There are 2 ways the examiner can ask this question.
Way 1: They say “Parlez-moi de vous”. And that’s it!
No prompts. No help. You just have to speak for 2 full minutes, completely on your own.
This is where most students get stuck. Either they talk too little, or go in circles repeating the same 3 lines.
Here’s what you’re expected to cover:
– Your name
– Age
– Where you’re from
– What you do
– A little about your family
– Your hobbies
– Why you’re learning French
And any other interesting information about you!
You don’t need a dramatic story. Just basic info in simple, clear French. And 2 minutes max, not too long!

Way 2: They ask you direct questions one by one, and they cross-question!
This method feels more like a conversation. They might ask:
– “Quel est votre métier ?”
– “Pourquoi apprenez-vous le français ?”
– “Vous vivez avec qui ?”
– “Depuis combien de temps et pourquoi apprenez-vous le français ?”
– “Parlez-moi de votre logement.”
They can also ask small follow-ups based on what you said.
Don’t overthink this. They’re not trying to confuse you.
They just want to check if you can reply naturally and keep the conversation going.
French learners, if this part makes you panic…
Let’s be honest again, if you can’t even speak about yourself for 2 minutes without freezing, let’s not avoid the reality, you’re not ready for the exam yet.
And that’s totally okay.
But please don’t take the exam just to “see how it goes”.
You’ll waste your money, time and energy for nothing.
Instead:
– Practice speaking out loud
– Record yourself
– Fix your structure
– Get feedback
– Then take the exam when you feel ready
